If you bring your dog to the beach for a longer period of time, I recommend that your friend bring an umbrella or a dog cage. Even when swimming in the ocean and charging in the white water, the sun is often too much for dogs and they can get very hot. As a pet owner, this goes without saying, but remember to bring them plenty of fresh water. Word to the wise: put more. I have had several incidents where one of my dogs knocked over a water bottle and I had to run to the gas station to get another water bottle.
If you have a small dog, you can wash off some of the sand under outside water. Most public parking lots that lead to the beach have these showers.
