The Lake District is as rural as any, offering dog-friendly walks from the doorstep, but we’ve got city accommodation, including a small pet-friendly hotel in the heart of London. 

We have stayed in hotels over the last couple of years. Prices are for Saturday night (peak price) and are correct at time of publication. All numbers are out of five.

A few weeks before we left, they asked us to book their breakfast and download an app to ‘plan our trip’. The long list on the blackboard in the lobby of the bright and white Georgian house confirms the idea that this is a hotel for travelers who want to spend time in the most beautiful part of the world. There are hikes, kayak tours, stargazing and other ways to enjoy the beauty of Ullswater. But if you’re not the type of person who can predict when you’re going to want your bacon and eggs a month before you wake up, you’ll still have a great time here.

We love the living room and dining room with new pine floors and floor to ceiling windows that bring the Lake District to you. The lake is best where you can take a long swim to see the mountains across the lake. The library, flooded with light through French doors, is another challenge to sit down before embarking on a health journey. The service is friendly and relaxed as opposed to pre-arranged. We haven’t tested the app, and neither do we.
