A moderately difficult route, it involves climbing uneven stone steps and crossing narrow footbridges, and despite good elevation gain. If you ride in heavy rain (which is best in the fall), that also means muddy paws (and anything that can get muddy) for your child.

How long the walk takes will depend on your fitness level and how fast you and your dog want to go. A 3 mile walk takes about 2 to 3 hours, and a 7.5 mile walk takes about 3.5 to 5 hours. If you are in good shape, you can do it quickly. If your dog is a slow walker, this may take longer.
You can do this hike any time of the year, but since the waterfalls are the main attraction, it is best to do it after heavy rains. In the case of Marin County, that usually means the winter months. If you can time your trip to coincide with a break in stormy weather, you can see the falls at their best.
