Paws And Paths: Exploring Dog Friendly Trails In Nepa
This trail is on “Dog Mountain” so your pup is invited! Located in the Columbia River Gorge, the Dog Mountain Trail offers hikers and their four-legged friends beautiful views of wildflowers in the spring and stunning views of the valley year-round. Make sure you warm up before going out; The first half mile is uphill before you reach a fork in the trail. The hike may be difficult for some, but we promise the views of the Columbia River and surrounding mountains are worth it. On one of the roads (if you take the eastern leg), there is also a meadow called “Puppy Dog” Meadow. If that wasn’t reason enough to take this trip, I don’t know what is!
Featured in “The Dog Lover’s Companion to Oregon” by Val Mallinson, this walking tour is perfect for you and your companion. Many people travel this way in the summer or spring in the hope of seeing migrating whales along the coast! Whales or not, this beautiful trail starts in the west and passes through old growth forests. After half a mile, you will get a view of the sea. This 4.8-mile out-and-back trail is flat, making it accessible to all types of hikers and friends.
Located in the Mount Hood National Forest, this trail shares its name with the Washington hike but offers something different. Located near Snoqualmie Pass, the Franklin Falls Trail is a family-friendly and dog-friendly hike. A 2 km round trip leads to a beautiful waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. Let your furry friend cool off in the river while you enjoy the beauty of the flowing water. The rewards are truly amazing for so little effort!

For a slow but rewarding trip, head to Mirror Lake and begin your journey to Tom, Dick, and Harry Mountain. The 7.7-mile loop takes you through old-growth forests, mountain meadows, and offers spectacular views of Mirror Lake and Mount Hood. Dogs have to be on a leash, but they enjoy walking just like you! This is a very popular trail because its location is easily accessible from Highway 26, so be prepared to answer the question, “Can I put your dog down?” many times!
Located in the Snoqualmie Pass area, the Snow Lake Trail is a dog-friendly hike that takes you to a stunning alpine lake surrounded by towering peaks. This 6.4 mile round trip offers beautiful views throughout the trip, making it a favorite among hikers and their furry friends.
