First, a little background on how we recently became pet parents. A few years ago, when suddenly COVID took over our lives and the first lockdown began, my husband and I joined a community of pet lovers to feed Indy street dogs. And so I found a very cute puppy wandering in the park without its mother. They were only a few weeks old and we fed them one at a time. One of them was a strong and playful dog and one of our friends immediately named him Raju who was the favorite of all the dogs.
Raju grew weaker and fatter by the day and soon became the happy but powerful alpha of the pack. Unfortunately, tragedy struck and he was apparently beaten up by some goons in the middle of the night when he was barely six months old and his spine was broken. Super cool guy Raju was semi-paralyzed and in a lot of pain – most doctors told us to put him down. Eventually one agreed to the surgery and we brought him home, hoping that one day he would be able to walk like a normal dog. However, two years later, when he can stand up and walk a little, he is still semi-paralyzed and out of control, but runs with the wheelchair I got. Raju is also a bit of a traveler who has visited beaches and jungles and is now enjoying a wonderful vacation in the hills. His brother Ishu was always with him and even in the last few months he started staying with us and this was his first trip away from home.
Orica Coorg is the talk of the town when it comes to pet friendliness. This pet-friendly resort in Coorg has so far hosted more than 95 dogs and cats, 30 of which are from India. Most pet-friendly resorts discriminate against Indians and prefer cute and cuddly breeds. They also have some restrictions. However, the Orica Korg had almost none of these, except that they had to be on a leash when out of rooms and pet enclosures.
Being a paralyzed dog, Raju also has special needs. Even though we have taken him to pet friendly resorts in Ooty and Bangalore and near Bangalore, we were worried if he would be comfortable here. But Orica Korg made sure it felt like home from the start. Sanjay Pandita, General Manager who welcomed us said that pets are our guests is his mantra and he wears the kindness of his pets on his collar. While we had welcome drinks, Raju and Ishu had sweets to welcome them. I also registered them as pets with specific details at the time of booking.

The room had pet beds, treats and toys and they loved it. Everything is well designed keeping your pet’s safety and comfort in mind. There were vessels for serving food and water. Although the tables are custom made for dogs, they can sit with you at certain tables in the restaurant.
The staff treated the pets so lovingly that Raju and Ishu felt very comfortable there. They walked and ran with us, rolled on the grass, sunbathed, chased squirrels and ducks, looked out over the wide green from their balconies and fell asleep dreaming of more adventures.
