I have to admit, as a hound lover, I was initially impressed by the photos of the owners of the beautiful rescue greyhound, but the stunning view confirmed the booking. We have visited twice since then and will be back again soon. Cosaigh Cottages is a top choice for a dog friendly home in Scotland.
There are so many beautiful places in Scotland! We usually go to the Highlands or Dumfries and Galloway so we had never been to the Scottish Borders before we found the house. We usually rent remote cottages in Scotland, but Cosaigh is located a few miles from Peebles in the pretty town of Innerleithen. Innerleithen is only 45 minutes from Edinburgh, which seems to be my favorite city because we got married here. We celebrated with a tasting menu at the Michelin-starred The Kitchen, an excellent restaurant that I highly recommend.

Booking here is very easy. Jennifer, the owner and hunting buddy, was extremely friendly, flexible and helpful. Despite the covid challenges, everything was perfectly organized and we felt safe during our visit. In this review, the cottage was spotlessly clean, which I always appreciate. Great value accommodation with the added bonus of donating the cost of a rescue dog staying at Cosaig Cottage at the Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary!

Reflecting the spirit of Kosaig as a whole, guests arrive in the most generous welcome hamper. In a thoughtful arrangement, it includes homemade flipjacks for man and dog (a very well received gift from the hounds!) Scotch oatmeal, fresh bread, eggs, Scotch tablets, milk, butter and wine. Complete the gift with a dog walking booklet, a bowl of fresh fruit and flowers. I told you he was generous!
What a cozy house. The cottage has everything guests need and is truly dog friendly, not dog tolerant. Keeping in mind the comfort of the dog and owner, guests will feel completely at ease here. Many pictures of good-looking dogs adorn the walls, which we love.
Lovers of stretching, which we appreciate on vacation when we have two sofas of the right size. Using the provided throw, the dog can join the hug here. The kitchen has everything an avid cook would need and the whole place is homey.
The bedroom has a good size double bed and lovely fresh linen. A complete blackout with window blinds is a recipe for a good night’s sleep.

This dog-friendly paddock has a garden courtyard that is completely secure and predator-free. We like to sit outside and bask in the sun, just like whippets. The village green is also the face of the cottage, so it is very convenient for a quick walk and a sniff.
As mentioned before, there is plenty for walkers, joggers and cyclists from the front door. We rarely used our car as the welcome booklet was full of suggested local walks, most of which started from the front door. The central location of the cottage makes it truly admirable. We literally walked minutes to local shops, including an Indian takeaway, an ice cream shop, gift shop, fruit and vegetable shop, a bakery and a butcher. The right size co-op means you don’t have to drive anywhere if you don’t want to.
There are many beautiful walks along the River Tweed in the welcome folder. We enjoy the railway and I use it as a jogging route as it is beautiful and feels very safe.
The welcome folder contains details of local pastures that are safe for off-lead dog activities, which are very useful for them to run.

A walk in Innerleithen Forest is quiet and peaceful. There are many variations of height and color gradient, so choose the one that suits you. John enjoys mountain biking which is accessible from town. Warning – Approach with caution – some areas can be very steep and challenging. John down! The oldest residence in Scotland, Tranquier House is magnificent. Walk to the house and grounds from Innerleithen.
Refresh with some Caldwell ice cream. We love a variety of flavors, including ginger, iron brew, sea buckthorn, and my favorite, delicious peanut butter and chocolate swirl.
We ran out of time to do something local. Next time I want to try horse riding and alpaca trekking.
Nearby is the Hydro Hotel in Peebles, which has its own Scotch gin distillery and spa. We toured Tweeden Peebles and the ‘Half Mile Tunnel’ which was very dark and a bit creepy. The dog-friendly restaurant Oso is delicious and a must-see.

We were planning a day trip to Edinburgh and the beautiful Portobello beach as it’s easy from here, but due to covid restrictions we couldn’t do it this time. Maybe next time we’ll go sightseeing in Edinburgh! Glasgow is less than 2 hours away.

I noticed from the guest book that many guests came back and we will definitely be back. Good customer service, like a smile, goes a long way and costs nothing, especially in the leisure, entertainment and tourism industry. Brits have to put up with a lot of bad customer service. In fact, we are famous for bringing it all over the world. Fawlty Towers is fun until you experience the same level of customer service.
