The coastal regions of Kiama and Gerringong are perfect for a quick escape from Sydney for dogs. With beautiful beaches, green countryside and beautiful natural scenery, it has a lot to offer, including dog-friendly attractions.
Pet Friendly Travel
One of my favorites is the Kiama Coast Walk between Minamura and Gerringong. Other highlights include seeing the famous Kiama Blow Hole, photographing Cathedral Rocks and enjoying the beach with the dogs.
After Kiama and Gerringong are the towns of Berry and Kangaroo Valley. The former is for coastal pleasures, while Barry and Kangaroo Valley are historic towns surrounded by farmland and forested valleys.
Take your pup for a walk along Barry’s lovely shopping streets, sip a glass of wine at a local winery, take in the views from the top of Mt Cambewara or relax at the Friendly Inn in Kangaroo Valley. There are many options, including beautiful dog cabins suitable for your vacation.
The Jervis Bay area, located in the heart of Huskisson, is close enough to Sydney for a weekend break, but far enough to avoid Sydney’s strict beach regulations. The area is known for its beautiful white beaches, many dog-friendly areas, and many off-leash and off-leash options.

Located around the towns of Bowral and Moss Vale, the area has many dog-friendly options, including pet-friendly accommodation. In winter, it’s tempting to just curl up by the roaring fire, which allows for a dusting of snow on the coldest days.
The nation’s capital, Canberra, is not all about museums, galleries and surroundings. There are some great travel options for travelers with dogs, not to mention a growing number of dog-friendly hotels, from independent to luxury hotels.
Early spring is a particularly good time to visit, with two good dog days each year: one day for the late snow and the other day for the annual Florida Festival.

Orange County in the Midwest is a popular tree-changing destination for a rural lifestyle combined with urban amenities such as fine dining. It is also known as a cold climate wine producing region with the possibility of snowfall every winter.
For those of you visiting with dogs, there are plenty of parks where your pooch can burn off some energy, as well as some amazing dog-friendly places. Orange has one of NSW’s dog-friendly botanical gardens, and the dog-friendly Cowra Japanese Garden is not far away.
Immediately think of the nearby wine regions and the Hunter Valley. Around the valley there are countless cellar doors to visit, not to mention breweries, cheese shops and restaurants.

Port Stephens is a wonderful beach resort, especially in the warmer months. North of Newcastle, the area around Nelson Bay is perfect for a short weekend break or longer stay.
Port Stephens has a variety of dog-friendly accommodation options. Not to mention dog-friendly beaches, the ability to hit the calm waters on a yacht or take your dog on a ferry to a tea garden.
A little further away from Sydney, the twin towns of Forster-Tancurry in the central North Coast deserve a longer stay, at least for a long weekend or a long weekend.

Don’t want to get wet? Go to one of Sydney’s best parks or visit these dog-friendly restaurants. Otherwise, take yourself and the crew to one of Sydney’s 50 best beaches.
There is no large amount of sand entering the water from the Bayview Conservation Area, but four-legged friends are given full reign over the area. Both the small beach and the nearby park are permanent off-road areas, and if Old Rover’s nose smells a little off, there are often dog walkers in the area on weekends. The newly renovated Newport restaurant is dog-friendly, too, just across the water.
To the west of Taronga Zoo is Sirius Cove Reserve – a small beach popular with families with dogs among their offspring. It is a place to hang out on weekdays all day, and on weekends and holidays you can let your pooch loose before 9 am and after 4 pm. If you’ve spent the morning making friends with exotic animals at the zoo, meet your four-legged family at the dock and walk down to the beach.
The reserve is not on the water, but the grassy dunes at Curl Curl Beach are good for adventurous dogs, who can run up and down until they run out. It is an offline area at all times
