Either way, if the Colorado team plays the way it did against the Blue Jays on Tuesday night, those who attack Hawks fans will go home in tears. There’s no question that last game was the Habs’ most complete effort of the season. They completely embarrassed the opposition in the first 40 minutes and only shut them down in the next 20, leading to a 5-0 victory and adding to what is now a six-point run. If the Avs can keep their spirits up, they might be able to creep back into the playoff race. We still have a long way to go, but a good run can do wonders for us.

The Falcons don’t have much to worry about in that regard. They sit atop the division and second in the conference. They were burned at home against Winnipeg on Tuesday, 5-1, but are 7-2-1 in their last 10. Patrick Canins is on his usual feet. Such is life in this season.

Duchene has one goal in his last 8 games and has been dry in his last 5. He had an assist on Eric Johnson’s goal on Tuesday, but he’s not scoring many points right now. That’s pretty par for the course with him — he had a one-goal streak in 23 games last year — but it would be nice to see him get at least one tonight. He should lead the NHL in shots off the post.
The captain hasn’t scored since Nov. 29 against Dallas, 10 games ago. He had two excellent chances on Tuesday that he narrowly missed, so he should be getting close. His luck with the puck is terrible right now, as evidenced by his 97.5 PDO. At some point, something has to give to Randy.
McKinnon’s dry spell is a bit more problematic. He’s in a vicious sophomore slump and hasn’t scored in 16 games and has just one goal in his last 21. The last time he got one was two weeks before Thanksgiving (the American kind), so it’s been a while. He looked excellent against the Blues, so with any luck that cold spell ends tonight. It would be nice for the child to get a late Christmas present.
