I did, and I went to the Mom 2.0 Summit, the ultimate gathering of moms to find out who is doing it all — running a business and a family blog.
What Are The Best Places To Take Kids On Vacation?
Now that school is out, here are some hand-picked destinations for families who want to get out and explore together.
With more than a hundred years of National Park Service in mind, many bloggers have come up with ideas for the best parks for families.
Whitney Moss, one half of the duo behind Rookie Moms Block, swore at Lava Beds National Park in Northern California. Caves come in all shapes, sizes and colors, and offer climbing from intermediate to competitive. And small children will definitely be able to climb out of lava, which looks heavy but is actually very light because all the air is trapped inside.
Whitney cautions that this is not a trip for overprotective parents. “It was a raw experience that we rarely had the opportunity to share with our children when we were one,” he said, “in the form of plastic toys.”

For Bon Bon Break’s Val Curtis, a “magical” family experience awaits near the shores of Redwood National Park. Amazed by the towering trees, her children said walking among the redwoods made them feel like characters from their own fairy tales.
Jeff Bogle of Out With Kids, one of the billionaires attending the conference, agreed with Val’s choice, and had a few side trips to add to the trip: a nature walk through nearby Fern Canyon — “the greatest living museum”; and sailing to Gold Bluffs Beach, where he says he “encountered the raw and irresistible energy of the redwood ocean.”
On the other side of the country, Jessica McFadden points to Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park as a quirky family getaway. Blogger The A Parent in America recently rented a cabin there, and she and her kids spent time exploring the park’s famous Skyline Drive, stargazing at night and exploring the nearby Luray Caverns. His tip: Hire a guide to get the most out of it.
But for Shelby Barron, founder of the Orange County Mom Blog, nothing compares to America’s first national park. In his opinion, Yellowstone gets better when it comes to providing a backdrop for the ultimate family vacation. Her tip: As big as a park is and as much as you want to see, be sure to get out of the car and explore the sights on foot.
College Bound Kid Doesn’t Mean End To Family Vacation
“Beach” and “family vacation” can mean the same thing. Nothing compares to a day at sea with sun and rising water – and the screams of children playing on the sand.
Family coach Kathryn Perlman of Cape Cod, Massachusetts offers “prime coastal towns with fast pace, long days and lots of ice cream.” She loves wonderful summer weather (“not too hot, not too cold”), quiet beaches, beautiful scenery – and stuffing her whole family with fried crab.
Amy Morrison of Pregnant Chicken says that when she thinks of summer, she thinks of Virginia Beach because of the warm memories she made there, diving into ice cream and drinking in the breeze.
The Outer Banks get all the paint when it comes to North Carolina beaches, but Andrea of Just Is a Four Letter Word loves less crowded Wrightsville Beach. Highlights: Wide beaches, mild climate and endless options for nature walks.
Best Beach Towns For An Oregon Family Vacation
If you’re looking for culture when planning your family vacation, a country as big as the United States has plenty of options for you, here are three destinations to look forward to.
North Idaho’s Kimberly Tate is fascinated by backpacking in the Coeur d’Alene. She and her husband brought their family there for Ironman triathlons and fell hard for the city park — with its city beach, sprawling plaza and summer concert series — and the area’s large number of lakes.
Amelia Salura in Half-Crazy Mama presents Virginia City, Nevada in the mid-1800s as a town for money. Vacationing there, she says, “is like walking back to an Old West town—wooden walkways and all.”
Sarah Hirsch, the blogger behind Well-Traveled Kids, sees the greater San Diego area as a great summer vacation for families because it brings everything to the table — the gorgeous Coronado Island Hotel near Legoland (with Disneyland about 65 miles away) and the bright and Sunny weather to match its splendor. Let’s face it, most families go to Disney and other theme parks because it’s convenient for all vacations, including tons of lodging, entertainment venues, and restaurants with kid-friendly menus. But there are plenty of other options for family fun.

Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, is located in South Vietnam and is known for its history during the Vietnam War. The list of things to do in Ho Chi Minh City with kids is endless, and spending a week there like we did won’t be enough to cover everything you want to do.
Cuba With Kids
Please note that a visa is required for US citizens visiting Vietnam. However, the process can be completed online and your visa will be emailed to you within a few days.
Your kids will love visiting the many temples, learning to cook, exploring all the local markets (especially the popular Bintan Market), eating street food and taking a day trip to the Mekong Delta. Booking tours while in Vietnam is easy and reasonably priced using Klook (similar to Groupon in the US). If you want to book a tour in advance, you can use Klook or a travel agency.
For safety reasons, be sure to carry a backpack instead of a duffel bag and keep all your belongings close to you at all times. Although Ho Chi Minh was safe, thefts occurred.
If you’re looking for good Southern food, culture, and friendly people, a trip to New Orleans should be at the top of your list. Most people don’t think of New Orleans as a destination for kids, but they do. It’s a really American place, and my family likes to hang out with the kids.
Why You Should Take Your Next Family Vacation In Boston
While in New Orleans, be sure to visit the world famous Cafe du Monde for the best attractions. We used to have strange things all over the world. However, there is something different about the beignets at this place.
The most affordable way to see the city is to purchase a New Orleans Pass. Along this crossing you can visit more than 25 famous attractions, including the New Orleans Audubon Aquarium, the National World War II Museum, the Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, Mardi Gras World and many more. The New Orleans Pass costs $71 per day for adults and $55 for children ages 3 to 12.
Although a visit to Whitney Plantation is not included in the New Orleans Pass, I highly recommend bringing your children there to teach them the truth about slavery. Whitney Plantation offers tours based on the slave experience and the best former slave farms to visit in New Orleans. You can book tours online or at your hotel’s concierge desk.
If boating is your thing, consider adding a cruise from New Orleans to extend your vacation.

Phuket is one of the most dreamy and unique destinations in Asia, famous for its blue waters and rugged limestone cliffs. Apart from the natural beauty of the island, there are also many cultural attractions such as Buddhist temples like Chalong Pagoda, making it a hot destination for families. The beaches are clean and the locals are warm and welcoming. It’s a place where you and your family can relax and reconnect.
Families can relax on the sparkling white sands, take part in exclusive snorkeling, swim and spend hours soaking up the sun. As the kids tire out on the beach and explore the culture, there’s more.
